Oakville Indian Mounds Park, Moulton, AL is 159 miles from Signal Mountain and is expected to take approx 3 hours using I 24W to AL HWY 72 through Huntsville and Decatur.  Hotel and food will be back in Decatur.

Home-Town Suites Hotel, 2125 Jameson Dr, Decatur, AL 35603.  256-308-0811-2 Queen beds at $75/night– continental breakfast – 20 miles to race course. Plan on bringing your own breakfast for Saturday morning. Their continental breakfast will be very light, but everyone has a small kitchen in their room.

 

Transportation:

 

Everyone is responsible for transportation of their student/athlete.  The team will need to leave from SMHS at 12pm EST Friday, October 2rd and travel directly to Oakville Indian Mounds for a pre-race course jog.

Leave Pruett’s at 6:30am and arrive at Sam Smith Park about 8:00am.  Sam Smith park is located at 1155 Douthit Rd, Cartersville.  The park is 95 miles from Signal Mountain and is expected to take approx. 1.5 hours driving I 75S to Red Top Mtn Rd exit 285.  $5/car is the entrance fee.

 

Special Instructions:

Temperature is supposed to drop later in the week – looks like we might be in 60’s at race time so bring warm ups and long sleeve shirts and extra socks as dew might be thick.

Next Friday we will be traveling to Oakville, Alabama for the Jesse Owens Classic. This is our biggest invitational of the year and our only overnight regular season meet. This meet will be for our varsity top 7 girls and boys. We will be staying at:

According to our last check they still had rooms available, but with close to 100 teams racing at Jesse Owens, I imagine they will be sold out soon. If you know your runner will be attending, call and reserve your room ASAP. If you do call and they are sold out, Tony and I have reserved a few additional rooms in our name and we can switch those over to you and your family if needed. Please let a coach know if you have any questions.

The XC season is upon us! Our first meet will be tomorrow at Camp Jordan. All races are 2 miles. (only for the 1st meet).  

The race times are:

• JV Boys and Girls – 5:00pm
  
  
• Varsity Girls – 5:40pm
  
  
• Varsity Boys – 6:20pm
  
   
  
  

These times will be the same for all CCCL (Chattanooga Cross Country League) meets. Please plan to have your athlete at the meet 1:30 to 1:15 hours before the schedule start of the race. This will allow for a proper warmup and time to mentally prepare. Our warmup is the same all season and each race group will warmup and cooldown together. Also, please encourage your athlete to continually drink water and hydrate for the meet. It is also a good idea to have them a recovery drink after the race such as Chocolate Milk, if possible. Get whole milk when you can.

 

It’s my understanding that the front entrance to Camp Jordan may be closed. If so, you will enter the park via Frawley Road (it’s the next left)

 

Lastly, we will have a brief parent meeting after all the races to discuss details of Saturday’s meet at Berry College. Please plan to stick around. Thank you for all you do. We are looking forward to an exciting season and we couldn’t do it without your support.
